OK, I've asked for Meals on Wheels, then what? You can expect delivery to start within a day or two. Within a week after we receive your request, a case manager will visit the elder to explain the program and answer any questions about Meals on Wheels. When are meals delivered? Drivers are on the road from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please allow for some fluctuation in the delivery time, as the number of meals and delivery locations change daily. Bad weather, a change in drivers, or emergency situation may also delay meals. Your patience and understanding are appreciated. Elders must be home to accept delivery The Board of Health does not permit drivers to leave a meal if the recipient isn't home. If you know that you will not be home to receive a meal, call the Meals-on-Wheels at 432/689-6693 at least one day in advance to cancel your meal. Please instruct family or friends to notify Meals-on-Wheels in case of doctor visits or hospitalization. This allows us to suspend meal delivery until we hear from you. How much does it cost? Meals on Wheels is sustained by donations and grants. A monthly statement is mailed to the clients but the client only has to pay whatever amount they wish (they do not have to pay or they can pay the full amount). Contact Meals-on-Wheels at the CSS at 432/689-6693 or by e-mail: nutrsup@cssmidland.org for more information. Memorial donations and tributes are other ways of showing support for the Meals-on-Wheels Program. Types of Meals Offered Meals on Wheels are developed by a nutritionist and represent one-third of daily nutritional requirements. Special menus such as diabetic, renal diet, and kosher are available. Ask the Meals on Wheels caseworker for more information. Delivery area Meals on Wheels are delivered in the Midland city limits Monday through Friday. Residents in Midland County may have family members or friends pick up frozen meals every two weeks.
